Statement on Tariffs on Steel and Aluminum
March 7, 2018 – Approved by the Board of Trustees via email
“The Lancaster Chamber has always been a proponent of free trade. This belief is based, in part, on our confidence in America’s ability to compete on the worldwide stage. Historically, tariffs lead to trade wars which lead to restrictions on where Americans can effectively sell their goods and services, thus ultimately limiting our marketplace.
“While there may be instances of unfair trade among nations, inclusive of the United States, a broad tariff on two critical elements of our economy is not in the best interest of businesses, individuals and our long-term economic prosperity.
“The Board of Trustees of the Lancaster Chamber strongly oppose the current proposal and encourage all our federally-elected officials to take appropriate action to stop its implementation.”
