Wohlsen Construction Receives ENR MidAtlantic Award of Merit for Lancaster Amtrak Station Project
LANCASTER, PA (August, 19, 2026) – Wohlsen Construction Company is proud to announce that the National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak) Lancaster Station Platform Replacement and Improvements Project has received an ENR MidAtlantic Award of Merit in the Airport/Transit category. The award recognizes excellence in construction, innovation, safety, and project execution across the region.
Located along Pennsylvania's Keystone Corridor, Lancaster Station is one of the state's busiest rail facilities and serves as a vital transportation hub for commuters, regional travelers, and visitors. The award-winning project modernized critical infrastructure throughout the station while maintaining uninterrupted rail service and passenger access during construction.
The project included the phased reconstruction of the station's north and south passenger platforms, restoration of the historic pedestrian bridge, rehabilitation of baggage enclosures, and restoration of original station windows. New platform systems were constructed using precast concrete components supported by micropile foundations, providing improved durability, accessibility, drainage, and safety for passengers.
Completing the work within a constrained active rail environment required extensive coordination among project stakeholders, trade partners, and Amtrak operations personnel. Through detailed planning, innovative sequencing strategies, and rigorous safety controls, the project team successfully delivered the improvements while maintaining station operations and train service throughout construction. The project was ultimately completed ahead of schedule.
"This recognition reflects the dedication, collaboration, and expertise of everyone involved in the project," said Brian Laub, Senior Vice President. "Delivering major infrastructure improvements at an active rail station requires extraordinary coordination and commitment. We are proud to have partnered with Amtrak to help modernize this important transportation asset for the Lancaster community and the thousands of passengers who rely on it every year."
ENR's Best Projects program honors projects that demonstrate exceptional teamwork, overcome significant challenges, and deliver meaningful benefits to their communities. The Lancaster Station Platform Replacement and Improvements Project was recognized for its successful execution, quality craftsmanship, safety performance, and ability to improve the passenger experience while preserving the station's historic character.
Wohlsen extends its appreciation to Amtrak, project partners, trade contractors, and the entire project team whose efforts contributed to this achievement.
