When music tells the story of history, something powerful happens.
In two weeks, the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra partners with LancasterHistory to present Stevens & Smith—a concert that honors two extraordinary Lancaster figures whose fight for freedom and equality shaped America.
At the heart of the performance is the world premiere of Second Founding, composed by Lancaster’s own Michael Wege. This breathtaking orchestral suite traces the journey from Thaddeus Stevens' Vermont childhood through the Civil War to the transformative Reconstruction Amendments that helped build a more perfect union.
The program also features: → Copland's stirring A Lincoln Portrait → Dawson's groundbreaking Negro Folk Symphony.
