WellSpan York Cancer Center Receives Accreditation from National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers

Member News

York, Pa. (September 25, 2023) – WellSpan Health’s breast program at the York Cancer Center has received full accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a quality initiative administered by the American College of Surgeons. This recognition is granted to programs that demonstrate compliance with NAPBC standards in leadership, clinical services, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement for patients. The WellSpan York Cancer Center is the first to achieve this recognition in York County.

“Achieving this accreditation signifies our commitment to excellence in the delivery of comprehensive, patient-centered, multidisciplinary care to our patients with diseases of the breast through their entire course of treatment. It is a testament to the high quality of care that we provide,” said Dr. Nikhilesh Korgaonkar, vice president and chief medical officer of WellSpan Cancer Institute. “From start to finish, our collaborative team of breast specialists work together to achieve the best outcomes for our patients, delivering care with the greatest respect and efficiency.”

Accreditation by the NAPBC provides the structure and resources needed to develop and operate a high-quality breast center. Patients receiving care at WellSpan York Cancer Center have access to a full complement of state-of-the-art services including prevention, early detection, diagnosis, evaluation, treatment, information about ongoing clinical trials, and support services. WellSpan’s expert team of medical, surgical and radiation oncology, along with specially trained nurses, navigators and therapists offer comprehensive treatment for the body, mind, and spirit through a patient’s entire care journey.

The breast program at the WellSpan Adams Cancer Center in Gettysburg is also a NAPBC accredited program. Each facility will undergo a site visit every three years to maintain this accreditation.

To further support all cancer patients, WellSpan collaborates with Johns Hopkins Medicine Kimmel Cancer Center in Baltimore to provide patients with access to world class cancer care like second opinions, expanded clinical trials, advanced gene therapy and access to specialists who treat the most complex cancers.
