Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health announces new chairperson, new member to its Board of Trustees

July 24, 2024, Lancaster, PAPenn Medicine Lancaster General Health is pleased to announce recent changes to its Board of Trustees. Consisting of community and business leaders from throughout Lancaster County and surrounding communities, the Board sets policy governing the operation of LG Health and oversees the work of six board committees.

Neal Salerno was named Chairperson of the Board of Trustees. Salerno, president of Eurofins Lancaster Laboratories, has served on the Board for six years. He succeeds Carolyn F. Scanlan, who led the Board from 2021-2024. Scanlan will remain on the Board. Katie Smarilli was named Vice-Chairperson of the Board and will chair the Finance and Capital Allocations Committee until December 2024, and then will chair the Governance Committee starting in January 2025. 

 

The Board of Trustees also welcomed Vanessa Philbert, who was appointed to a three-year term. Philbert is currently CEO of Community Action Partnership of Lancaster County. She also serves on the Board of Directors and as Equity Chair of the Community Action Association of Pennsylvania; is Board Chair of Lancaster Equity Community Development Corporation; serves on the Board of Directors of the Lancaster City Alliance; and serves on the Board of Trustees of the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce.  Philbert holds a Masters Degree in Strategic Leadership and Organizational Development from Elizabethtown College and a Bachelors Degree in Applied Psychology and Organizational Development from Albright College.

Herman, CEO of Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health. “This group of talented leaders have a true passion for improving the health and well-being of our community, and their diverse expertise ensures that LG Health services are safe, effective, and continue to reflect the values and traditions of the communities we serve.”

In addition to serving on the Lancaster General Health Board, Trustees serve on sub committees, which are established to review and consider specific strategic areas of focus affecting Lancaster General Health. The following chairpersons were named to the committees below:

  • Audit & Compliance Committee – Chair remains as Edward W. Monborne
  • Executive Committee – new Chair is Neal Salerno
  • Finance / Capital Allocations Committee – Chair is Kathleen A.  Smarilli, July 2024-December 2025 with new chair, Ross W. Kramer, taking over in January 2025 
  • Governance Committee –  Chair is Neal Salerno, July 2024-December 2024 with new chair, Kathleen A. Smarilli, taking over in January 2025
  • Mission & Community Benefit Committee – Chair remains as Daniel A. Wubah, PhD
  • Quality Committee – Chair remains as Kim R. Smith

Lori Pickell, retired president and CEO from Irex Corporation, has completed her four year term.  Lori leaves following her extraordinary service and leadership to our organization.  We are grateful for Lori’s role as chair of the finance committee during the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. During the May Board meeting, LG Health recognized her for her contributions to the health system and the community.
