LancasterHistory Announces Special Presidents' Day Events

Special Subject Tour and Children's Storytime Events Explore Moments of the Buchanan Presidency


LANCASTER, PA — This Presidents' Day, LancasterHistory invites the community to attend two events celebrating the American presidency, including a special-subject tour centered on President James Buchanan's pivotal year of 1859 at his beloved home, Wheatland.

Presidential Tour: "James Buchanan: The One-Term Executive"  

Delve into the historical intricacies of James Buchanan's presidency with "The One-Term Executive" tour at Wheatland. This Presidents’ Day, uncover the lesser-known aspects of Buchanan's administration that influenced his tenure as a one-term president, including his efforts for territorial expansion and his struggle with corruption in the War Department.

    Date: Monday, Feb. 19, 2024

    Time: Hourly tours from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

    Location: LancasterHistory, 230 N. President Ave., Lancaster, PA

    Tickets: $17/Adults (18+), $15/Seniors (65+), $10/Students (11-17 or College ID)

Advance tickets are strongly encouraged, and can be purchased in advance either online or by phone at (717) 392-4633. Members of LancasterHistory enjoy complimentary access but are advised to book in advance to secure their preferred tour time.

Presidents' Day Storytime

For our younger historians, LancasterHistory presents a Presidents' Day Storytime, an engaging reading session accompanied by a themed craft or activity. During this family-friendly event, a museum volunteer will read If I Ran for President by Catherine Stier aloud. After the story, children will craft their own "I Voted" badges and entertain a visit from 15th President of the United States, James Buchanan.

    Date: Monday, Feb. 19, 2024

    Age Range: 2-6 years (suggested for 12 and under)

    Tickets: Free; required for participation
