JBT Supports Power Packs’ Contributions to Lancaster & Lebanon County Families with $10,000 Donation

Member News

Jonestown, PA – August 28, 2023: Jonestown Bank & Trust Co. (JBT) recently made a $10,000 donation to Power Packs Project to help in the organization’s efforts to serve food-insecure households in Lancaster and Lebanon counties.

Power Packs provides nutritious meals and food preparation skills to teach families how to stretch their food dollars, with low cost recipes and ingredients that enable families to cook a meal for under $10.

“This generous donation from JBT will aid Power Packs’ efforts to provide weekly healthy food and education to the record numbers of food insecure families coming to Power Packs who need help putting food on their tables, and provide them with hope for a brighter future ahead,” said Brad Peterson, Power Packs Project Executive Director.

Recognized as an Educational Improvement Organization, Power Packs has partnered with school districts in Lancaster County (Lampeter-Strasburg, Manheim Township, Penn Manor, School District of Lancaster, Warwick) and Lebanon County (Annville-Cleona, Cornwall-Lebanon, Eastern Lebanon County, Lebanon, Northern Lebanon) to provide weekend meals for students and their families. In addition, Power Packs has affiliate programs in Cocalico, Columbia, Donegal, and Hempfield school districts in Lancaster County.

“The Power Packs Project is meeting a vital need in a number of communities we serve,” said Troy A. Peters, JBT President & CEO. “They combine educational efforts with ingredients and recipes to help families make sure their children return to school fed and ready to learn. We’re happy to be able to support the work they do.”

In 2016, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) estimated that nearly 13 million children in the United States were living in food-insecure households, without consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life.
