GSK and Thaddeus Stevens College partner on combined apprenticeship, employment, and degree track
(Lancaster, PA) — GSK, a global biopharma company with a presence in Marietta, Pa. is partnering with Lancaster-based Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology to offer a parallel pathway for two students to work full-time, gain apprenticeship experience, and earn a degree with tuition supported provided by GSK.
GSK expects to hire apprentices for roles at its Marietta, Pennsylvania location, each of whom will be full-time employees at the Marietta location. The students will simultaneously be enrolled part-time at Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology. One student will be from the college’s electronic engineering technology academic major, employed as an instrumentation technician apprentice. The second student will be enrolled in the college’s electro-mechanical technology academic major, employed as a utilities technician apprentice. GSK will cover the cost of tuition, books, and tools for both students.
“I’ve always told myself to be the change I wanted to see in the world, and here at GSK I can do that,” said Jasmine Mohamed, Biochemistry Associate Apprentice at GSK in Upper Merrion, Pennsylvania. “I’m able to learn important skills in the career I love while helping make a difference.”
Students enrolling in the college to start in the 2025/26 school year in those specific academic programs are eligible to apply for the GSK positions. Students also in the midst of their first year at Thaddeus Stevens College in those designated academic majors may apply for the roles. GSK staff will work closely with the enrollment team at the college to navigate both the enrollment and hiring process as it unfolds. Onboarding is anticipated to begin in the summer of 2026.
“This partnership highlights our mission of creating educational opportunities and career pathways,” said Pedro A. Rivera II, president of Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology. “Students who pursue this option will be earning a full income, gaining apprenticeship hours, and earning a degree at no cost to themselves. After they complete the program, they will be debt-free from this degree and have foundational years of experience on which to build a career.”
While in this partnership, students will complete three to four years of the dual work and degree credits. Students cannot live on campus as residents at Thaddeus Stevens College as part of the partnership and must live within an hour’s drive of GSK’s Marietta site. Good academic standing must be maintained throughout the timeline to maintain enrollment. Completion of the program does not guarantee continued employment beyond the apprenticeship period. After meeting all required apprenticeship hours, the student would have journeyperson status with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor.
