musical comedy phenomenon, will be playing at Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre for 5 weeks only -

October 4 - November 2, 2024.

Join us as we hop back to 1962 Baltimore with Tracy Turnblad, a16-year-old who’s ready to dance her

way onto TV’s most popular show. Can a girl with big dreams (and even bigger hair) change the world?

Come find out! Enjoy the upbeat music and charming storyline sure to be a season favorite. The

beloved score of hit songs includes “Welcome to the ’60s,” “Good Morning Baltimore,” and “You Can’t

Stop the Beat.” HAIRSPRAY is “fresh, winning, and deliriously tuneful!” (The New York Times).

HAIRSPRAY is based on the New Line Cinema film written and directed by John Waters, who served

as a creative consultant on the musical comedy. It features a book by Mark O’Donnell and Thomas

Meehan, and an original score by Academy Award-nominated Marc Shaiman with lyrics by Marc

Shaiman and Scott Wittman. The Dutch Apple creative team for HAIRSPRAY includes Director and

Choreographer Amy McCleary, Set Designer Robert Kovach, Costume Designer John P. White, Hair

and Wig Designer Brandon T. Miller, and Music Director Scott Williams.

The cast will be led by Amanda Domb as Tracy Turnblad. Brian Kalinowski returns to the role of

Edna Turnblad. He was Royal Caribbean’s first Edna Turnblad in their production of HAIRSPRAY on

the Oasis of the Seas. The outstanding cast also includes Jasmine Lacey Young (Motormouth

Maybelle), local favorite Jim Johnson (Wilbur Turnblad) and Deidre Lynn Thompson (Penny

HAIRSPRAY premiered at Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theater in June 2002. The show was a smash hit when

it transferred to Broadway, winning eight 2003 Tony Awards including Best Musical, and became the

longest-running musical to play the Neil Simon Theater, running 2,642 performances from July 18,

2002, until January 4, 2009. It is the 22nd longest running show in Broadway history.
