LANCASTER, PA — LancasterHistory invites the community to delve into the agricultural past of Wheatland with the event “Discovering A Gentleman’s Farm: A History of the Wheatland Grounds” on Saturday, August 10, at 10am. This enlightening program will explore the history and functionality of the grounds where James Buchanan, the 15th President of the United States, lived as a gentleman farmer from 1848 to 1868.
Museum Associate Stephanie Celiberti will lead the event, beginning with a 40-minute presentation in Ryder Hall. The presentation will provide an in-depth look at how the 22.5 acres of meadows, orchards, gardens, and green spaces of Wheatland were utilized during Buchanan’s residence at the property. Following the presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and participate in an optional outdoor tour of the Wheatland grounds to see the areas discussed in the presentation.
Tickets for the program are priced at $5 for Adults (18+), $3 for Students (11-17 or with a College ID), and free for LancasterHistory and Friends of the Tanger Arboretum Members.
