Member News

LANCASTER, Pa. (Oct. 6, 2023) – The Trust Performing Arts Center will again partner with Lancaster International Piano Festival (LIPF) during the 2023-24 arts and culture season for three concerts featuring some of the world’s best musicians.

The first LIPF concert is set for 7:30 p.m. Oct. 28 in the Great Hall of The Trust, 37 N. Market St., downtown Lancaster, and will feature Tianxu An, an outstanding, award-winning young pianist who is sought after both at home in China and around the world.

Lauded as “sensational” and “beyond his years in maturity,” An’s piano concert repertoire will include Chopin’s “Fantasie Op. 49” and Schumann’s “Sonata No.1, Op. 11.”

Tickets are available at lancastertrust.com or lbc.edu/events.

A native of Baoding, Hebei province, An drew international attention when he won the fourth prize and a special prize in the XVI International Tchaikovsky Competition. After this honor, he made his orchestral debut with the Philadelphia Orchestra at the Mann Center, performing Rachmaninoff’s “Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini.”

An has performed with the Mariinsky Orchestra in St. Petersburg, the China Philharmonic Orchestra as part of the International Mariinsky Far East Festival and in solo recitals at the Mariinsky Theatre and Shanghai Grand Theater. He has also received numerous top awards, including first prize in the Albert M. Greenfield Student Competition, grand prize in the “Helen Cup” Shanghai International Piano Competition and the second prize in the Wiesbaden International Piano Competition.

In the summer of 2021, An toured mainland China, with performances in 19 cities, from Beijing to Shanghai, performing major works by Beethoven, Brahms, Liszt, Rachmaninoff and Prokofiev. His first album from that August features works by Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff and Prokofiev. He completed his studies at the Curtis Institute of Music in 2022 and previously studied at the middle school affiliated with the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing.

The 2023-24 LIPF concert series continues at The Trust with a 7:30 p.m. performance on March 16 by Tanya Gabrielian, who has been hailed by the London Times as a “pianist of powerful physical and imaginative muscle.”

Then at 7:30 p.m. May 4, the Elaris Duo, who has been praised by Fanfare Magazine as being “exceptional artists and interpreters,” joins Steinway Artist Xun Pan to perform Mendelssohn’s “Piano Trio No. 1 in D Minor” and Brahms’ “Piano Trio No. 1 in B Major.”

The Trust Performing Arts Center is an architecturally stunning venue for music, theatre, dance, lectures and community events in the heart of Lancaster’s downtown arts district. In 1912, the Lancaster Trust Company completed construction on its new headquarters—a Beaux-Arts masterpiece from the imagination of Lancaster’s leading architect, C. Emlen Urban. A century later, Mr. Urban’s architectural treasure has been re-imagined by Lancaster Bible College as The Trust Performing Arts Center. The Trust has a mission to honor God by encouraging excellence in the work of student and professional artists and by enriching the community through inspiring, challenging and redemptive experiences.
