Member News

LANCASTER, Pa. – Armstrong World Industries Foundation (AWIF), the philanthropic arm of Armstrong World Industries, Inc., announced today that it has awarded over $400,000 in grants for 2024 to local organizations supporting a range of community needs including food insecurity, community enrichment and housing.

“We are proud to support organizations that play a pivotal role in addressing critical needs in our community,” said Salena Coachman, AWIF President and VP, Talent Sustainability and Acquisition at Armstrong World Industries. “This year’s grants reflect our ongoing commitment to empowering Lancaster’s residents through initiatives that combat food insecurity, enhance community enrichment and improve access to housing. By investing in these efforts, we aim to help create a brighter future for individuals and families across our county.”

Lancaster-area grants this year include:

● $100,000 to the Lancaster County Food Hub for the creation of flexible space that can respond to the evolving needs of poverty and homelessness while ensuring a continuum of care and granting the dignity of those seeking assistance.

● $100,000 to the Greater Elizabethtown Recreation Area and Community Service (GEARS) for renovation to its gymnasium which acts as the focal

point of community events servicing the needs of individuals of all ages, including recreation, continuing education and social service programs.armstrongceilings.com 717 397-0611 2500 Columbia Ave., Lancaster, PA 17603, USA

● $100,000 toward LancasterHistory’s Thaddeus Stevens & Lydia Hamilton Center for History and Democracy, rehabilitating Congressman Thaddeus Stevens’ home and law office, preserving a critical piece of Lancaster’s history and providing invaluable information to present and future generations.

● $25,000 to each of Junior Achievement of South-Central PA, The Common Wheel, Community Basics and Lancaster Central Market Trust.

David Wendel, Executive Director of GEARS, said "Through the AWIF grant, GEARS will replace its damaged gym floor, a crucial space for recreation, senior programs and childcare services. This new flooring will support daily activities, including sports, fitness and community events, enhancing the well-being of our participants. The gym is where children learn basketball, seniors maintain a healthy lifestyle and our community builds lasting memories. We are grateful to the AWIF for recognizing the value of our programs and making this project possible."

In addition to the grants announced today, the AWIF provides funds for Armstrong World Industries’ production sites to award to charitable organizations in their local communities as well as employee giving matching funds and emergency relief to employees experiencing hardship, natural disaster or significant medical expenses.
