Member News

LANCASTER, Pa. – Armstrong World Industries Foundation (AWIF), the philanthropic arm of Armstrong World Industries, Inc., today announced its 2025 grant recipients with awards totaling $400,000. The recipient organizations support a range of community needs with a focus on community enrichment and housing insecurity.

“We’re proud to support organizations that are preserving Lancaster’s history, strengthening our neighborhoods and improving quality of life for residents across our community,” said Salena Coachman, AWIF President and VP, Talent Sustainability and Acquisition at Armstrong World Industries. “From restoring historic landmarks to expanding shelter capacity and supporting essential services, this year’s grants reflect our commitment to creating a more equitable, vibrant and connected Lancaster.”

Lancaster-area grants this year include:

  • $100,000 toward LancasterHistory’s Thaddeus Stevens & Lydia Hamilton Center for History and Democracy, an interpretive museum and education center currently in development and slated to open in early 2026.
  • $100,000 to Tenfold for a complete rehabilitation of a 115-year-old shelter facility. The building provides temporary housing with intensive support services for people experiencing homelessness.
  • $75,000 to the Lancaster Redevelopment Fund & Lancaster County Homeless Coalition to support the Clay Street Emergency Shelter, which will provide a long-term solution and crucial interim stability for individuals transitioning from homelessness to permanent housing.
  • $50,000 to YWCA Lancaster to support a multi-phase construction project to address critical challenges related to space, accessibility, environmental health and service capacity.
  • Additional community grants were awarded to the Schreiber Center for Pediatric Development, make717, Meals on Wheels of Lancaster and the Lancaster Central Market Trust, supporting their ongoing missions across education, innovation and local well-being.

“We’re deeply grateful to the AWIF for their investment in the Road to Home campaign supporting the Clay Street Emergency Shelter. With these contributions, we are creating real, lasting change for individuals who need stability, safety, support and a place to rest their head at night,” said Justin Eby, Executive Director, Lancaster County Housing and Redevelopment Authorities.

“The AWI Foundation’s support is not only a generous gift — it’s a promise of understanding and investment in our future,” said Stacie Blake, CEO of YWCA Lancaster. “We have a long-standing relationship with Armstrong, including a time when we provided housing for its employees. We look forward to continuing our partnership in service to the community.”

In addition to the grants announced today, the AWIF provides funds for Armstrong World Industries’ production sites to award to charitable organizations in their local communities as well as matching funds for employee giving and emergency relief to employees experiencing hardship, natural disaster or significant medical expenses.
