The Mechanical/Structural Engineer II designs, specifies, and documents the structural framework and mechanical systems for set pieces, props, and puppets used in all Sight & Sound productions while collaborating with other departments to accommodate their functional requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- As a part of our production process, engage in conceptual, model, drawing and framing reviews, incorporating the required information discussed into each design.
- Design, layout and create the construction and fabrication documentation using SolidWorks to support fabrication efforts ensuring all departmental requirements have been captured and clearly communicated.
- Collaborate with the Automation/Electronics Designers to ensure the electromechanical integration meets the functional requirements of the set piece.
- Support overhead rigging and/or facilities related projects and work with outside vendors to get quotes or manage projects.
Prerequisites:
- Excellent self-disciplined work habits, breaking down complex projects into small segments and accomplishing tasks within given timelines and deadlines
- Understanding of drafting practices and drawing standards with SolidWorks software
- Understanding of metal fabrication, machining, and general construction best practices
- Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to work within a cross-functional team.
- Organization and communication skills, while demonstrating initiative and resourcefulness, an attention to detail, and a desire to continually improve
- General computer skills and competency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Current portfolio with a variety of professional work examples
- Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience preferred
- Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) preferred
Experience:
- 4-6 years Machine Design Experience
