Hotel Chief Engineer, AmishView Inn & Suites

Position Summary

Responsible for the overall maintenance and repair of the hotel's building and guest rooms, onsite restaurant, equipment and grounds in accordance with the policies, and profit objectives of the company to provide superior service and value to the customer. Responsible and accountable to conduct his/her responsibilities within the confines of EEO, Title VII and other applicable laws.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Fundamental job requirements which an individual must be able to perform in order to accomplish the basic duties of the job.

  • Responsible for the safety and health of all who enter upon the premises of the hotel and restaurant including its co-workers, customers and subcontractors by placing as his or her top priority the maintenance of the property including the building, fire and life safety equipment and its procedures for dealing with all types of emergencies.
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area free of hazards and performs daily patrols of building and grounds looking for damaged electrical fixtures, inoperable lights and any other mechanical, plumbing or electrical equipment that may be operating improperly causing an unsafe or unhealthy condition.
  • Ensures timely response to requests for services by guest, co-workers and management to include repairs or replacement of all interior equipment, furnishings and fixtures.
  • Selects and hires maintenance co-worker(s) and is directly responsible for their orientations and training on an on-going basis.
  • Insures superior maintenance, preventive maintenance, repairs and improvements of building equipment and grounds.
  • Maintains property management maintenance system, ensuring system is always up to date.
  • Maintains open and daily communications with co-workers and other management to ensure a harmonious working environment and to foster a maximum level of co-worker morale and productivity.
  • Ensures high standards of maintenance/repair service are performed to include electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, heating and cooling, structural facilities, grounds and parking areas.
  • Monitor the level and quality of services performed by outside contractors in accordance with all lease agreements, service contracts and warranties. Maintains accurate records including serial numbers on all equipment. Ensures implementation of ongoing preventative maintenance program and keeps accurate monthly records of services performed according to manufacturer's recommendations.
  • Ensures implementation of an ongoing energy conservation for all facility operations.
  • Keeps swimming pool equipment in perfect operating condition, checks purification and treatment levels of pool water and ensures pool area is kept safe.
  • Calculates, submits and monitors actual departmental costs against budgets and ensures action steps are taken to maintain department's level of performance against plan.
  • Responsible for the ongoing safety training for co-workers.
  • Functions as part of the Manager-On-Duty (MOD) Program Team as directed.
  • Monitors co-worker attendance in conformance with the standards, following up with co-workers as appropriate.
  • Works varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel and restaurant, due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry.
  • Maintain a neat, clean and well-groomed appearance.
  • Required to fully comply with rules and regulations for the safe and efficient operation of hotel and restaurant facilities.
  • Supports efforts and actions related to Sustainability, ensuring implementation and compliance with the actions within their department.
  • Maintain on-site water system for non-public water system.
  • Maintain on-site tenant buildings and structures.
  • Will serve on and may chair various company committees as appointed
  • Promote the interests and favorable image of Thomas E. Strauss, Inc. family of businesses. Support and sustain company values.
  • Perform special assignments as directed.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • HVAC certification or willingness to achieve
  • Basic computer skills
  • Valid state drivers license
  • 5+ years experience in position
  • Proficiency with using hand tools
  • Mechanical troubleshooting aptitude

Physical Demands and Work Environment

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pound not to exceed 100 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally works in high places and is occasionally exposed to high heat. The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud.
