General Counsel

Hope International is looking for a general counsel responsible to provide legal recommendations on those matters determined by the Executive Leadership Team, Board of Directors, and/or general counsel as appropriate for internal legal review, recommendation, and action.

The general counsel is responsible to provide legal recommendations on those matters determined by the Executive Leadership Team, Board of Directors, and/or general counsel as appropriate for internal legal review, recommendation, and action. This role will also be responsible for identifying legal issues that require outside special legal counsel or international counsel review and action. The role is responsible for retaining and monitoring the relationships with special and international counsel. The general counsel may provide corporate governance support to the Board of Directors and the Executive Leadership Team. The position requires effective interaction with stakeholders, professionalism, and a commitment to the organization’s values.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and fulfill the mission and vision of HOPE International
  • Review and Advise on Legal Matters: ensuring compliance with United States laws and regulations in employment, immigration, and other legal matters
  • Risk Mitigation: assist in defining legal risk to the operational goals of HOPE International and its affiliates and determining means and methods for mitigation
  • Corporate Governance: draft appropriate board resolutions to document due diligence and decision-making of Board of Directors
  • Corporate Secretarial Functions: as necessary, assist with filing required Annual Reports with Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of State and other federal, state, or industry related required filings and provide notarial services, both remotely and in-person
  • Collaboration: Foster effective collaboration with colleagues, cross-functional teams, and external partners to achieve shared goals
  • Communication: Communicate clearly and persuasively, both orally and in writing, to different audiences including team members, leadership, clients, and other stakeholders
  • Reporting and Documentation: Prepare accurate and timely reports, presentations, and documentation as required by the position
  • Compliance: Ensure all work complies with relevant policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, upholding the highest standards of ethics and integrity
  • Other Duties: Perform other related responsibilities as assigned by management, adapting to evolving organizational needs

Qualifications

  • Personal confession of Christian faith and commitment to the mission and vision of HOPE International
  • Juris Doctor degree and qualified to practice law in the United States
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to guide, motivate, and inspire others to achieve excellence and embrace change
  • Strong research, fact-checking, and analysis skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, including effective time management and prioritization of multiple competing demands
  • Ability to manage projects with minimal oversight, make effective inquiries, identify relevant facts, and translate technical details into concise, understandable communications for a wider audience
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Ability to give and receive constructive criticism
  • Demonstrated ability to work with confidential information
  • Acts ethically and transparently
  • Attention to detail
  • Availability for limited travel if necessary
