Employee Benefits Compliance Specialist-Hybrid Position

The Employee Benefits Compliance Specialist is primarily responsible for working with our Employee Benefits team and ensuring that our clients are up to date with federal and state legislative requirements including, but not limited to, ERISA, ACA, COBRA, FMLA, HIPAA, DOL regulations, summary plan descriptions, and plan documents.  This is hybrid position, working in the Lancaster office two days a week.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 


Duties include providing compliance advisement within the department and to our clients.  This role will also research and provide updates and information on all compliance topics that may impact our internal team and our clients. Other responsibilities include

-Compose and distribute timely communication of information or changes in legislation to alert internal team and clients.

-Evaluate and review client health & welfare plans and plan documents during either the new client onboarding process or at renewal time to assess whether there are shortcomings.

-Conduct proactive compliance assessments based on guidelines provided by VP of Employee Benefit Services.

-Provide updated compliance notices for client open enrollment guides – CHIPRA, Medicare Part D, etc.

-Act as the benefit compliance thought leader within company-wide communication channels.

-Participate and consult with clients in the event of a DOL and/or ERISA audit.

-Liaise with counsel, vendors, and other consulting resources, as needed.

-Cultivate effective working relationships with fellow employees, carriers, vendors and clients.

-Maintain a current working knowledge of industry, legislative and compliance issues and changes.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES


A bachelor’s degree and three to five years of experience with benefit compliance management is required. Compliance experience with federal and state regulations is essential.  The candidate must possess excellent organizational skills as well as strong verbal and written communication skills. This is an independent position with minimal supervision.  Experience working with the insurance industry Epic software is preferred but not required.
