Director of Finance- Lighthouse Vocational Services-(Non-Profit)

Director of Finance will be responsible for the financial management and accounting of Lighthouse Vocational Services (LVS) and the related entities of LVS namely, Lighthouse Vocational Properties (LVP).

This position reports to the CEO and works Monday through Friday 7:30 – 4:00 with occasional weeknights, as needed.

 

The Director of Finance will be responsible for the financial management and accounting of Lighthouse Vocational Services (LVS) and the related entities of LVS namely, Lighthouse Vocational Properties (LVP). This strategic role partners with executive leadership to support business growth, optimize financial performance, and ensure financial health and regulatory compliance.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, or related field (master’s preferred)
  • Broad knowledge of GAAP accounting principles with strong Fund Accounting familiarity
  • Experience in Office of Developmental Programs billing preferred
  • Expert Proficiency in accounting software (currently QuickBooks Online)
  • 7+ years financial management experience
  • Impeccable mathematics and analytical skills
  • Attention to detail is a must
  • Able to meet tight deadlines and work evenings as needed
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Demonstrate excellent team skills, positive attitude, and high ethical standards
  • Solid communication skills
  • Effective leadership and supervisory skills
  • Optimistic and growth focused, with a strong desire to grow personally

 Responsibilities

  • Oversees financial operations of LVS
  • Directs financial planning and strategy
  • Develop annual financial plans and projections for the company
  • Manages internal controls
  • Conducts analysis of financial risks and benefits on business initiative
  • Support the CEO to maintain adequate Internet Technology functions
  • Spearheads the potential upgrade and or replacement of the Accounting Software system and manage it as the Administrator
  • Prepares general ledger entries including automated ones
  • Establishes department budgets and ongoing review in accordance with requirements
  • Tracks and reconciles restricted funds for capital projects work with the CEO
  • Performs reconciliations of the General Ledger
  • Researches and resolves variances
  • Prepares and reviews financial statements, including related schedules
  • Oversees audit and tax functions including statement and forms and/or support for their preparation
  • Develops and implements accounting policies
  • Prepares forecasts and comprehensive budgets
  • Provides as needed customer service support to internal and external customers/participants
  • Provides reports and related information to support departments’ objectives and mission via the Senior Staff
  • Responds to inquiries by providing guidance, support, and analysis, as requested
  • Conducts weekly and monthly financial assessments and generate reports, to be submitted to the LVS Board on at least a quarterly basis. Analyzes and reports on financial performance
  • Supervise finance staff and drive team performance and development
  • Approve Finance Assistant timecards and PTO/Vacation
  • Identifies opportunities for improvement and participate in internal projects and operations
  • Communicates concerns and ideas in a courteous and respectful manner
  • Obtains and expands knowledge base in area of expertise
  • Integrates new knowledge and skills into daily work and share with colleagues as appropriate
  • Assists with advancing departmental projects and initiatives
  • Participates in other organizational fund raising, social and promotional activities to help ensure the continuing viability of LVS
  • Networking opportunities either in emerging leader groups, CFO group, or other pertinent organizations with a major gift focus
  • Presents to the Finance Committee every other month
  • Collaborates on Senior Staff Development
  • Works as a team player with colleagues to promote positive and engaging work environment
  • Has quarterly meetings with supervisor for performance review/goal setting implementation/coaching
  • Complete annual required online training on Relias training platform
  • Attend in-person professional development/team building training
  • Advocate for the rights of individuals with IDD in various settings, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations
  • Supports the mission and vision of Lighthouse Vocational Services
  • All Other tasks as assigned

Physical Requirements

  • Travel may be required to travel for meetings, conferences, or audits.
  • Stamina to maintain focus and attention to detail over extended periods,
  • Long periods of sitting, using a computer, and reviewing financial documents
  • The role involves significant communication with other departments, senior management, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to speak and present for extended periods, and sometimes engage in high-stress negotiations or discussions
  • Strong vision or the use of corrective lenses may be required to review financial reports, spreadsheets, and data for accuracy. Reading from screens or printed documents is a constant part of the job.
  • The ability to maintain a comfortable and ergonomic work setup to avoid strain due to prolonged sitting, typing, or computer use. This can prevent long-term physical issues such as back pain or carpal tunnel syndrome.
