COBYS Family Services' Communications and Development Specialist is an integral member of the Development Team, working cross-functionally to support organization goals.

Title: Communications & Development Specialist

Work Hours: Full Time – 37.5 hours a week, hybrid schedule

Salary Range: $60,000 - $70,000, commensurate with experience

Reports To: Director of Development & Communications

 

Summary


The Communications and Development Specialist is an integral member of the Development Team, working cross-functionally to support organization goals. Goals include enhancing awareness of organization’s mission and services, driving financial donations and sustained recruitment of foster families. This position includes a focus on multi-channel digital and print asset creation (website, social, email, video, etc.) and message customization to diverse audiences. This externally focused position assists with internal communication projects as needed.

Responsibilities

 

  • Effectively communicate the organization’s mission, programs and services to diverse audiences.
  • Design and produce multi-channel digital and print assets (website, social, email, video, advertising, newsletter, print collateral materials, etc.).
  • Coordinate year-round communication/marketing activities to ensure that internal and external audiences receive appropriate, comprehensive,  brand-aligned communication.
  • Serve as member of the Development Team, playing a key role in the planning and execution of fundraising events, associated campaigns and appeals.

 

Desired Skills and Abilities

 

  • Commitment to COBYS vision, mission and core values
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Canva or similar graphic design system
  • Skilled in using standalone email marketing systems or those integrated with CRM systems
  • Experience with video production, with focus on short form, digital storytelling
  • Knowledge of nonprofit fundraising and appreciation for the nonprofit sector
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Willingness to collaborate and engage with team members and cross-functionally to meet organization needs
  • Ability to work independently and maintain communication with supervisor and coworkers, while meeting project and campaign deadlines
  • Desire to actively participate in fundraising activities and events

 

Qualifications and Education Requirements

 

  • Three (3) + years of design and/or communication-related experience, non-profit and for-profit experience accepted
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, advertising, public relations, graphic design, or a related field
  • Flexible schedule, occasional evening and weekend work is required to align with fundraising and community awareness activities

  • Moderately, physically active, may be necessary to be seated for extended periods of time.

  • Manual dexterity and repetitive movement of fingers and hands for keyboarding.
  • Typically requires close visual acuity involved with preparing and analyzing data, viewing a computer screen, and extensive reading.
  • Able to receive, analyze, interpret, and deliver detailed information through written and oral communications.
  • Able to think critically and solve problems effectively.
  • Able to observe and manage tasks in multiple settings.
  • Able to function at a high level in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Able to work one-on-one, in small groups, and in large groups of colleagues.
