The Department of Communication & Theatre at Millersville University will present “The Laramie Project,” a groundbreaking play by Moisés Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theater Project, in Rafters Theatre at Dutcher Hall this fall. Performances run Oct. 30 - Nov. 1 and Nov. 6 - 8 at 7 p.m., with a matinee on Nov. 2 at 2 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at www.millersville.edu/tickets.

“The Laramie Project” is a documentary-style play that explores the aftermath of the 1998 murder of Matthew Shepard, a young gay college student in Laramie, Wyo. Drawn from over 200 interviews with residents of the town, the play weaves together multiple voices to paint a portrait of a community grappling with tragedy, justice and questions of identity and acceptance. 

“This piece challenges us to reflect on issues of tolerance, prejudice and humanity,” said Adam Boyer, assistant professor of entertainment technology & theatre at Millersville University and a member of the President’s Commission on Gender and Sexual Diversity. “The themes of ‘The Laramie Project’ are, unfortunately, as timely today as ever, and the conversations it sparks are critical for our campus and community.”

Audience Advisory: This production contains strong language, mature themes, the use of stage weapons, and depictions of discrimination and violence. It is intended for mature audiences.
