What to Expect!

Join David C. King, President and CEO of Horst Insurance, as he shares his experiences having completed 12 acquisitions over his 30-year tenure with Horst.  Horst Insurance has continuously maintained a purposeful acquisition strategy to supplement organic growth.  Guiding the firms acquisition strategy is a prioritized set of key criteria that is used to carefully evaluate each opportunity. Dave will discuss the real and recent challenges that businesses face when searching for acquisition opportunities, and tips to make every transaction easier and more efficient.

Dave has supported the insurance industry and the community at many levels over his career, most recently as a current Board Member of Donegal insurance Group, a current Advisory Board Member of the Millersville University Center for Disaster Research and Education and as a Member of the Patient Safety Committee for Penn Medicine/Lancaster General Health.

When not working, Dave enjoys spending time with his friends and family which includes seven grandchildren.

David C. King, President & CEO, Horst Insurance

Dave began his Property & Casualty Insurance career over 30 years ago after graduating from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA in 1985.  Upon returning to Lancaster after a senior internship as a Legislative Assistant for a United States Senator, Dave embarked on a career far different than his major emphasis of government and economics.  Joining a large regional insurance brokerage, Engle-Hambright & Davies, Dave spent six years mastering the skills and tools he needed to attract, manage and retain middle-market and large commercial property & casualty clients.

Wanting to explore the world of national accounts, Dave joined Marsh & McLennan in 1992 where he assumed responsibility for a book of large clients based in the Northeast, with exposures nationally and globally.  After several years in a consultative broker role, he returned to the Pennsylvania region and joined what was Gingrich Stoudt Insurance, a division of the Horst Group.

In 1995, Dave took over as Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the overall insurance division of the Horst Group, now known as Horst Insurance.  With a staff of 40 and two offices in Central and Eastern PA, Horst provides insurance services to over 8,000 commercial and personal clients throughout Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware, and 160 insurance brokers through its wholesale division, Producers Insurance Network. On January 1, 2003, Dave was named President and Chief Operating Officer of Horst Insurance, and later became President and Chief Executive Officer on January 1, 2005.  Dave is a member of the Key Leadership Team of Horst Group, Inc. and has served on the Horst Group Board of Directors since 2005. Dave is a CPCU candidate, has graduated from The Commercial Union Insurance School, the Sitkins Sales Management and Producer Schools and the CHUBB Recognized Leader Program at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.  Dave remains a strong advocate of consultative selling and differentiation through a value-added approach to client management.

In addition to his duties as President of Horst Insurance, Dave also serves as Corporate Risk Manager for Horst Group, Inc. and its diverse set of Construction, Excavation, Property Management and Senior Care business units.  As an active Risk Manager, Dave constantly hones his insurance and risk management skills from both the buyer and broker perspective.  He continues to maintain responsibility for a select group of clients and specializes in large, complex commercial accounts where emphasis is placed on program design, master planning and coverage consolidation. His clients’ insurance programs often include master policy programs involving multiple entities, locations and exposures, or alternative financing programs such as captives and self-insurance.  Dave’s skills include helping commercial clients assess and modify their enterprise risk management program, with a strong emphasis on business continuity planning.  Over Dave’s 30+ year history with Horst, he completed 12 acquisitions that resulted in Horst Insurance’s position as a leading insurance broker in Central and Southeastern Pennsylvania.
