What to Expect!

  • Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA): Learn the important concepts and practical applications of the FMLA, including employee eligibility, notification procedures, and the overlap with other time off and reasonable accommodation policies.
  • Vacation, Sick time, or other Paid Time Off (PTO): Explore best practices for managing vacation, sick, and PTO policies, addressing accrual, usage, and approval processes. Further, many surrounding states require paid sick leave; learn about how to overlap state-mandated sick leave with these policies.

Human Resources Policies and Procedures:

  • Equal Employment Opportunity Policy: Gain insights into creating and implementing policies that promote a non-discriminatory workplace.
  • Sexual and Other Harassment Policies: Learn how to develop effective anti-harassment policies and procedures, fostering a safe and respectful workplace. The content of an Anti-Harassment policy can make or break a lawsuit.
  • Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA): Understand ADA compliance, reasonable accommodation interactive processes, and the rights of employees with disabilities, with a brief primer on undue hardship and direct threat analyses.
  • 2024-2025 Legal Updates: Understand the importance of policies recognizing new laws such as the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, the PUMP Act, and the ever-changing concerted activity protections

Participants will receive a copy of the sample handbook provided by Barley Snyder and 1.5 credit hours supported by our partner, Lancaster SHRM.

Meet the Facilitators!

Caleb Setlock is an attorney in the Employment and Labor Law practices, representing employers in litigation and advising on best-practice methods. Caleb has experience defending a wide variety of employee claims. His primary practice includes federal discrimination claims under Title VII, 42 U.S.C. § 1981, the ADA, the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the ADEA, Title VIII and the Fair Housing Act, and state discrimination claims under the PHRA and the PFEOA. His experience in Labor Law consists of providing rapid response training to clients and defending against unfair labor practice charges.

Hannah Schroer is a member of the firm's Employment Practice Group. Recently, she presented at the Pennsylvania Bar Institute’s 2024 Employment Law Institute discussing the impact that abandoning Chevron Deference would have on employment law. Prior to working at Barley Snyder, Hannah served as a Judicial Clerk for the Honorable Leonard G. Brown III of the Lancaster County Court of Common Pleas. In this role, she researched and drafted civil opinions from commercial contract disputes to restrictive covenants.
