Description:
Climate-smart agriculture (CSA) is a set of farming methods designed to increase the resilience and productivity of land affected by climate change. It's a new name for something that has been around for quite a long time. Studies show that when farmers are prepared to handle changes in the environment, they achieve higher crop yields and farm incomes. Some practices include conservation tillage, cover cropping, nutrient management, agroforestry, irrigation, and many other methods that are already being utilized by today's farmers.
Climate-smart agriculture is guided by three main goals:
- Increased productivity (sustainably intensifying agriculture)
- Enhanced resilience (adapting to climate change)
- Reduced emissions (mitigating greenhouse gas emissions)
Join us to learn more about actions and steps Lancaster County producers can take to ensure their sustainability in today's changing environment. Agribusiness professionals will benefit from learning more about these methods, their impact on farm success, and why it may be useful to adopt going forward.
